Digital Camera Accessories - The Top 7 Accessories You Can’t Live Without! article

The anticipation of buying some digital camera accessories is just about as exciting as buying the camera itself. With so many trimmings to go with it, the digital camera will turn a simple hobby into a pleasurable profession with just a snap of the finger. When we begin looking at the digital camera of choice, we need to look at some of the accessories that will go with it. Some accessories will go with most cameras but some may be brand specific, so stay with the brand of the camera if you can when looking at their extras.

Accessories such as rechargeable batteries, a battery charger/AC adapter, memory card, soft camera case, camera bag, lens cleaning kit, tripod, external flash and filters, will all make the digital camera run more smoothly and efficiently. They add value to your photo shoots, and also increase the life of your camera. The worst thing in the world is to be out on a shoot, and have the battery go out or the memory card malfunctions.

There are some accessories more important than others, and some simply sell better than others. Right now, at the top of the accessory list for digital cameras are: (1) camera bags - for LCD scratches, general marks on the camera, with the Lowepor Micro Trekker 200 and the Lowepro Mini Trekker Classic as the two top selling bags; (2) memory cards - it is best to have one large card or a couple medium card.

(3) camera tripod - only purchase one of you are serious about photography; (4) photo printer - some of the best ones are the Canon i70/i80/i90 Portable Photo Printer, HP Photosmart 375 Photo Inkjet Printer, Epson PictureMate Personal Photo Lab Inkjet Printer, Kodak EasyShare Dock Plus Dye Sublimation Printer, and the Sony DFF-FP50 Digital Photo Inkjet Printer; and (5) Portable Storage Device and Card Reader - holds 7 memory card types and stores up to 100 GB of images; (6) photo editing software - always upgrade to a more advanced program; and (7) Digital Picture Frame - displays slide shows and receives photos across country.

One of the most important accessories, which really is a necessity, should be a lens cleaning kit to go along with the digital camera. You should never clean any optics of your camera using your shirt, fingers, water or breath. The kit, which costs a few dollars, includes a small blower brush, a soft cloth, a small plastic bottle containing the lens cleaning solution, and a number of lens cleaning tissues. Little specks of dirt on a photograph or smudges will cost a person time when they editing them out.

Digital cameras and their built-in flashes have a limited range of approximately ten feet, which is considered normal for most point-and-shoot cameras. This distance can be increased 18 feet on up to 40 feet, depending on the flash used as a slave flash, which is ANY photographic flash that has a sensor built into the unit. Many of these are sensitive enough to be activated 100 feet away in full sunlight, but are not restricted to outdoor use only.

Some of the new digital cameras that have “red eye reduction”, also called pre-flash, require a special digital flash unit to act as a slave unit. But the older digital cameras without pre-flash will still work with slave units. But the first thing was to purchase a camera with at least 2X on up to an 8X optical zoom - not digital. Optical is the highest quality digital camera available, as the digital will take blurry photographs.

Another very important accessory is a tripod, for those of us who have the shakes and an unsteady hand. The tripod is needed to prevent camera shake, especially when the shutter speed drops below 1/60 second at a wide angle shot. Some digital cameras are equipped with an LCD monitor, which flashes a blinking light as a warning when the shutter speed is likely to cause a camera shake.

Also, a tripod is necessary when the photographer is too close to the object in macro photography. There are mini tripods and the regular tripods, with the minis pretty popular anymore as they are lightweight and can be stored easily.

Almost all digital cameras come with a small starter memory card, 16 or 32 MB. However, a professional photographer or a shutterbug may need a larger memory card - the more pictures on it, the faster it will disappear in room. A larger card will have more room so more pictures can be taken; we won’t need to rush to our computer to transfer them off the memory card before we run out of room. We also have the option of using several small memory cards, sorted out per subject or job.

And last but not least, a battery charger or an AC adapter is very much needed, unless we keep a case of batteries on us at all times. But the battery charger is the number one choice as it allows us to continue charging spare batteries without interrupting our shooting. In the case of an AC adapter, the shooting will come to a halt while the battery is being charged.

It is also advisable to buy a spare set of rechargeable batteries as it saves us the embarrassment of getting stuck with drained out batteries during the middle of a photo shoot. Rechargeable batteries last longer, and will save us the bother of hunting for battery stores in desolate places. The price may be high at first, but it is better than losing a photography job or driving all the way to a camera store to repurchase what was forgotten in the first place!

Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD Buy Now

I am a strong believer that the best pictures are taken by a camera that you have on your person at the time. For this reason I am a big fan of Nokia cell phones because I always have a decent camera with me. As long as the image quality is acceptable, it is more important that you have the camera on your person then anything. While a good cell camera is great, because you always have your phone with you, the Canon D10 takes this a step further. With the D10 you need not worry about the camera getting damaged, so you can take it anywhere and I mean anywhere. It is the ultimate adventure camera, as it is waterproof, shockproof, freeze proof and well just all around life proof. If you have an active life and you want pictures of it, then this is the camera for you. A camera for an active life. The photo quality while not the best in the world is more then adequate, the camera is fast and it is easy to use. If you need the best pictures then get a DSLR, if you want a camera that is ready to take pictures any time and any place get the Canon D10. I also recommend a cell phone with a decent camera, as you will always have your phone.(except in the water, snow, etc…. where the D10 is perfect)

This camera is nearly perfect though I could see a few improvements for the next version.
HD zoom video with auto focus and a GPS receiver for geotagging would put this camera over the top.

My only complaints are that the shutter button needs to be pushed in about a millimeter to far for the focus detent and picture. I also wish the optional AC adapter could charge the battery in the camera, as I do not like taking the battery out to charge it.(Afraid I am gonna break a nail or the waterproof door which is hard to get open and for good reason) Canon might consider making the battery a higher capacity built in battery like Apple has done with the macbooks, then have just one door to access the SD card, usb, charging port.

This camera takes phenomenal photos under ANY circumstance and has no glaring flaws. If you have an active life style and need a camera that can keep up, look no further.

*update*
OK I have an update, this camera is great!
I was at the Waipio Valley beech in Hawaii when this camera really got put to the test. My buddy lost the camera in the surf!(why he was not wearing the wrist band, I don’t know!?!?) The camera spent 10 minutes underwater in the big waves pounding against rocks and sand on the beech. Our entire group of friends rushed into the water to look for it and amazingly we found it! It has been beat up and scratched pretty good, but still works great. There is not a scratch on the lens, so it must be well protected. I can’t think of a more brutal test for the camera and it came through(and back) amazingly. So there you have it. I will try freezing it during the ski season.Get more detail about Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD.

Switching from Film to Digital Camera - Smart Move article

BuyWaterproof Digital Camera Best Price

Are you considering the leap from film to digital? Do you cringe every time you pay for film developing? Taking pictures with a digital camera has many advantages over film, but many people are still concerned about issues with digital photography like quality and ease of use.

Digital cameras have come a long way in recent years, and pictures taken digitally can rival film-based photographs much of the time. Even so, there are certain criteria you should consider before handing over your hard-earned cash for a digital camera.

The wide selection of cameras available today can be quite an obstacle for many people. With so many cameras to choose from, one can feel like they may not be making the right decision if they are concerned there might be other models they didn’t consider. Simply focus on the brands and models that fit your budget and you’ll be able to quickly narrow your choices if you consider the following things:

Picture quality: You definitely want to look at actual photos taken by each camera you are considering. I always suggest you ask to take some pictures using the display model in the store and ask them to email one or two from each camera to you. This way you can look at the picture detail at home, without the pressure of a salesperson hovering over you. Are the colors bright? is there good detail in the shadows? Are the highlights washed out? Pay special attention to the outer edges of a photograph — color distortion and fuzziness are an indication that the lens isn’t as sharp as it could be.

Megapixels: While not the only factor in determining image quality, the sharpness of the pictures will be impacted by the megapixel rating. The higher the number, the sharper the photos should be, and the sharper they will be when enlarged. Realize, though, that the higher the megapixels the larger the file size for each picture - so you’ll need more memory (using pop-in memory cards) to store the same number of images.

Ease of use: How does the camera feel in your hand? Is the shutter in a spot that is natural? Are the controls easy to reach and simple to understand? If the camera is cumbersome to use, you won’t take as many pictures. You want your new camera to be as easy to use as possible.

Shutter lag: When taking pictures, do you notice any delay between the time you press the shutter release and the time the picture is actually taken? Vast improvements have been made recently by many camera manufacturers because this hgas been one of the main complaints regarding digital cameras.

Zoom:There are two types of zoom - optical and digital. Optical zoom delivers the highest quality image (and adds to the cost.) You may be satisfied with the quality of the digital zoom function if the camera has high enough resolution (megapixel number) or you don’t intend to enlarge your pictures very much.

Screen Size: The size of the screen will have a bearing on how well you can see to compose a shot or view what you’ve taken. Using your digital camera in bright sunlight can present viewing problems, since bright light makes the screen difficult to see. Many digital cameras have an additonal optical viewfinder you can use to compose your pictures with having to rely on a hard-to-view screen when in bright light.

Battery life: This has also been an area that manufacturers have tried to improve. Early digital cameras consumed batteries faster than you could replace them. Some cameras use AA batteries which can be replaced quickly during shooting, or a proprietary battery that must be put on a charger when it dies. The proprietary battery may be less costly to use, but you could also be unable to continue shooting if you don’t have a charged spare when it dies.

Post shoot adjustments: One of the greatest advantages of digital photography is your ability to edit your pictures before printing. Your camera will come with photo editing and management software to help you, and you might end up getting more advanced image editing software further down the road. You’ll be amazed at the improvements you can make to your pictures as you learn how to edit them - adjusting color balance, density, removing unwanted objects, fixing red eye, etc. You’ll be able to perform the magic previously available only from expensive custom photo labs when you were shooting film.

Getting prints: This is another area many people are concerned about. I want real prints, not files on a computer I’ll never look at! All photo labs can now make inexpensive, high quality prints on real photographic paper. With digital, you can shoot all you want, select the best pictures, and print only the ones you want. Why pay for the print that caught Aunt Martha blinking, or little Billy making the ugly face? You’ll save a bundle since there is no cost to shooting all the pictures you want.

It can be a big step to start shooting digital pictures, but I promise you’ll be glad you did. The quality of pictures, easy of use, editing capability and lower cost make switching to a digital camera a very smart choice.

BuyWaterproof Digital Camera Best Price
-

The current models of Olympus digital cameras allow a person more freedom and flexibility than before. But before you decide on an Olympus digital camera model, you must think about the types of photographs you want to take.

For taking shots like sports shots or any pictures of fast moving subjects you would need to get a camera with a large optical zoom like the 10X. There are a number of Olympus models under the Ultra zoom series that would fit your specifications. The camera would also need to be able to take several pictures in a few seconds to give you a better chance of catching the right shot. It is best to get a camera that can take at least 1.5 shots every second; this is double the amount of shots you would have obtained under normal circumstances.

When taking shots indoors, it is important to get the settings right. The Olympus digital camera with manual settings is a better choice in this situation. There is an eternal flash and you are able to manipulate the controls with features such as aperture, white balance setting and shutter speed.

If you are out on vacation with the family, having a barbeque or engaging in any other recreational activity, the portable point and shoot camera is your best choice. These models allow a person to take a good picture with as little fuss as possible and they are the most affordable of all the cameras on the market.

You should also think about the size of the camera you are about to buy. This can ranges from pocket size to something you need to carry in a bag. Here is a breakdown of the range of Olympus digital camera sizes.

? The D-series digital camera weighs about five ounces and is the size of a wallet.

? The Stylus digital camera is thinner than the D-series but its weight and size are the same.

? The C-series digital camera won?t fit in a pocket but it is still portable

? The digital SLR weighs over a pound and is the biggest Olympus digital camera on the market.

Olympus - From Microscopes To Digital Cameras And Video Recorders article

In 1919, Olympus was known for its advanced technology that went from its first microscope, the Asahi, to the cameras, digital players, and voice recorders of today.

Founded originally under the name of TakachihoSeisakusho, the name Olympus has now also become synonymous with top of the line voice recorders and accessories for the consummate businessman and attentive student.

Now, Olympus has combined this flare for voice recording electronics with the consumer’s need for digital music players, with their line of digital voice recorders with music players

With the highest consumer vote of extreme popularity of all the Olympus lines of digital player/voice recorders, the Olympus WS-300M weighs in at only 1.6 ounces with LCD audio system built-in display. Its price ranges from $102.79 up to $149.99, with several online stores offering free shipping - such as buydig.com or Beach Camera.

A compact brush silver device, it is equipped with 256MB of internal memory, for up to 68 hours of recording time and stores up to 120 music tracks. It can plug directly into any PC or Mac, and then uploads or downloads files as chosen. The big seller for it is no cables, docking station, and no special software.

It is simply a mass storage device for music, dictation, images and data digital data files. No driver installation is necessary and its USB direct. The WS-300M is a high quality WMA/MP3 music playback function with WOW/SRS effect. It has a backlit, full dot, LCD display - with four recording modes (SHQ/HQ/SP/LP) and five folders for file management.

The second highest popular digital player and voice recorder that was chosen by the mainstream is the Olympus WS-320M. Basically the same as the WS-300M, it has the ability to store and play up to 266 songs, with the track and artist name on the LCD display. There is an average 277 hours of recording time, with a direct USB port link to upload or download immediately, and a built-in stereo microphone.

The real big difference between the two is the price: as stated above, the 300M has a price tag of $102.79-$149.99, while the price tag of the 320M has a price tag of $159.99-$179.99. There also seemed to be more merchants carrying the 300M (16) than the 320M (3) in the online stores.

The installed memory of the Olympus WS-300M is 256MB while the memory of the 320M is 1 GB. Both audio formats were WMA andMP3, with a USB interface, headphones, and microphone. Both had PC and Mac system compatibility. Neck straps are available on both devices, with a silver color on the 300M and black on the 320M. The power source for both is AAA type batteries, weighing .1 lbs, with dimensions of 3.7″ x 1.5″ x .4″ for similar dimensions.

Olympus presents its WS-300M, WS-310M, and WS-320M for consumers needing more recording time with an easier transfer process. The WS-300M gives 68 hours of recording time and the ability to download approximately 66 songs, the WS-310M provides 138 hours of recording time and 132 songs, and the WS-320M is capable of recording 277 hours of audio while holding 266 songs.

Digital Camera Basics - Want To Stop Being An Idiot And Learn How Digital Cameras Work? article

BuyWaterproof Digital Camera Best Price
-

With the advancement of the digital camera and the software that is made for them, most pictures look professional from the first click of the camera. But like most things, it is important to understand the “how and why” for higher quality results.

The basics of a digital camera revolve around terms like pixel, pixel count, white balance, sensor, sensitivity, optical zoom, or digital zoom. These improve your understanding of what digital photography is all about, and will help you become a more efficient photographer.

For example, one important term is digital sensor. A typical digital camera may have a digital sensor element that is as big as a small finger nail. Most 5MP digital cameras use a sensor that is 7mm x 5mm in size. This is much smaller than the size of the negative of a 35 mm camera. However, high-end digital cameras have large sensors, and generate superior images. These are important things to know, to see how pictures can be better or worse.

Digital cameras also have sensitivity settings similar to ISO ratings on film. Most digital cameras will have settings for sensitivity equivalent to ISO 100 and ISO 200. Many also have a setting for ISO 400. A few expensive digital SLR cameras with large sensors have settings for ISO 3200 or even for ISO 6400.

Most digital cameras have an optical and a digital zoom. An optical zoom lens works by changing the focal length and magnification while the zoom is being utilized - with the image quality remaining high. Digital zoom works by cropping the image to a smaller size. The cropped image is enlarged to fill the frame, causing a significant loss of quality.

The manufacturers of digital cameras use the term “pixel count” to describe their camera’s image properties. The word pixel originates from “(PIC)ture (EL)ement”- with the use of phonics added for emphasis. It represents a single point in a graphic image - not a dot but an abstract sample that can be reproduced in any size, without a dot or square appearance.

A pixel is important to understand because it is the basic unit of measurement, used to define a digital photograph. The more the number of pixels per square inch, the higher the resolution of a digital picture, increasing its clarity. Some examples would be 2,400 pixels per inch, 640 pixels per line, or spaced 10 pixels apart. Designers, artists, and photographers sometimes interchange the pixel terminology, such as dots per inch (dpi) with pixels per inch (ppi). The dpi is used when it refers to the printer’s resolution for the printing density. Each pixel is made up of three color channels - red, green and blue — and has a numerical value of between 0 and 255.

The pixel count also decides the size of a print in case you want to print photographs. A 3MP camera can provide excellent 4x6 inch prints, while a 4 or 5MP digital camera can deliver high quality 8x10 inch prints. With a digital camera you can pick the white balance to suit the light source. This is meant to ensure that white looks white, and not yellow or blue. Normally, your digital camera will do this automatically. You can also set the white balance yourself for better effects.

Since each pixel generates three bytes of data, a photographer using a 3MP camera will need a storage space of 9 million bytes or 9MB to store a single image. This is a huge amount of space. Camera companies therefore allow for a compression of image using a format called JPEG. This reduces the file size significantly but while doing so a lot of data is lost. To overcome this problem companies have come up with different storage formats. Canon calls it RAW while Nikon calls it NEF. The data loss is less in these formats.

The low end cameras used by beginners can shoot images whose pixel count is one million is categorized as 1 MP or one million pixel camera because the intensity of each pixel is variable, with each pixel having three or four dimensions of variability - such as red, green and blue, cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. The high-end cameras used by professionals, can range from 14MP to 22MP with a pixel count as high as 14 million or 22 million per image.

The thing to remember is the higher the resolution, the more realistic the image is, matching closest what the actual image is. So take your time, do some research, and talk to people who know cameras. Otherwise, a lot of money will be spent on something that is barely adequate for what you want.

Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD Review

I bought this camera for a trip to St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. I originally acquired it to take underwater pictures, since I own a nikon D40 with a 18-200 mm lens for “landscape” type of pictures, but I got very surprised with its quality as a “general purpose” camera. It takes very balanced pictures and the settings are very flexible. Whenever I went to the beach, I preferred to take the D10 instead of the bulky SLR, and it worked flawless.

But it is underwater where the camera shined. I took hundreds of pictures of corals and fishes, and the quality of most of them was excellent (considering this is camera fits in your hand and it is very lightweight). I also recorded many underwater videos, which is done very nicely by the camera as well. The incorporated microphone is rather low quality, but it kind of make sense to me to avoid water intrusion I guess. I used the camera for at least 8 hours total under seawater during my 4-day trip and I did not have problems at all. I soaked it in tap water everytime I used it in the sea as stated in the manual. This camera really changed my trip. My girlfriend is actually thinking about getting another for herself since we had to share it when snorkeling.

The camera is fast. Whenever I saw a nice fish around me, I turned it on and took a picture in a matter of 2-3 seconds. Most images were not blurry, which kind of surprised me. With the appropiate light (as it happens with every kind of camera), underwater pictuers can get very very nice. The LCD is very clear underwater, and it gives you a fair idea about the picturejust taken. Flash did not work well underwater since there was a lot of reflection, so it is better to disable it and use it with proper light. I’ll be uploading pictures soon.

I’d recommend this camera to anyone needing an all-weather camera for amateur purposes. Although i’ve had it for three weeks, it seems very reliable. It is made in Japan, which i guess gives it an extra bonus IMO.

Digital Camera Mistakes - How Do I Take Better Pictures? article

Many amateur photographers have never heard of the term “workflow”. In fact, many semi-professionals haven’t either. In actuality, it refers to the entire life span of a digital image. Its entire life means from the second it is captured on camera, or scanned into the computer, clear to the end of its life when it leaves the computer, through either output or put into long-term storage. And it is in this area that the majority of errors occur in photography. The initial clicking of the button is not the final product, regardless of public opinion.

According to Jay Watson, in his article on “Digital Asset Management”, he refers to the workflow of a photograph or a digital image as its initial downloading from the Internet, a scanner, or a digital camera; batch renaming; rating; deleting; sorting; adding metadata and keywords; creating master files and derivative files; scheduling back-ups; building a catalog for the images; editing with Photoshop (or something similar); and then getting the images outside the computer.

Some of the most common mistakes to try and avoid when using a digital camera, is the transmission and storing of images. Large and bulky transmission of high-resolution images always will block a recipient’s e-mail inbox as a large attachments. To avoid this, simply reduce the image to a size that will fit a monitor screen, taking less time to download.

A photo-cataloging program that is built into Windows XP is another solution, as it resizes photographs before they are e-mailed. There are several graphic programs, such as the free version of Easy Thumbnails, that can be downloaded to resize graphics and photographs for emailing or web-sites. Alternately, you can reduce the size of your photos and send them to a photo-sharing site or to a personal web site. This is a good idea if there are many photographs for sharing with friends and relatives.

It doesn’t take many mistakes resulting in lost data files, before the backup of images becomes automatic, or you find a software program that does it as the work is being done. ALWAY do a backup of images! The reason this is so very important is because the hard drive will crash at one time or another - and usually the time is the “other”, when the most important piece of work ever done, will be lost.

All the digital data may become lost or damaged, including the photographs that you have so lovingly taken. Currently, the most convenient backup solution is a second hard drive. However, the more affordable solution is recordable CDs and DVDs. They should be used to save multiple copies of the photographs, so that you always have a few copies available in case one of the CDs is damaged.

Digital or optical zoom requires a special skill to get the correct focus and exposure, even by using the latest photo editing software. If high resolution pictures are what is being worked with, this software is especially useful in handling them. It can create some good quality prints with sensible cropping. However, for close-up shots, a higher optical zoom or an add-on telephoto lens is a must.

In addition to software, many cameras offer several options for choosing the best compromise between picture quality and file size, provided an understanding of JPEG compression is understood. The disadvantage is that every time an image is saved in the JPEG format, there is a permanent and irreversible loss in quality of the image.

A digital camera’s highest resolution ability helps preserve digital photos with as much clarity, colors, and as many details as possible. User-manuals are not just another “pretty face” - they need to be read and worked with, to understand the digital camera to the point it becomes a best friend. It provides several helpful tips of optimizing results, and can go a long way towards improving anyone’s photography skills.

Progression of Digital Camera Technology

Digital cameras are devices that record images digitally on a light sensitive sensor. They can be used to take still photographs or videos. Highly versatile, they can take thousands of images on a single memory device, can record video with sound, edit these images and delete them allowing re-use of space. Digital cameras have been incorporated into many other devices like PDA’S mobile phones and vehicles. The Hubble Space Telescope is a digital camera.

Initially, the idea of digitizing images on scanners was used by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to provide astronauts with navigational information. A mosaic photo sensor would record locations of planets and stars. This would help astronauts to orbit and land. The FUJI-DS-ISP 1986 was the first true digital device that recorded images in a computerized file. The first digital camera with LCD was the Casio QV-10 in 1995.The image resolution is achieved by the camera sensor that turns light into discrete signals. Millions of “buckets that make up the sensor, count the number of photons that strike it. The brightness of the image is dependant on the number of pixels (the smallest unit of information for an image).

The rapid technological improvements have dramatically reduced costs. “Pixels per dollar” has become the measurement of value of a digital camera. The camera either uses the single shot or the multi-shot method of capturing an image. This refers to the number of times the sensor is exposed to the light passing through the lens. Scanning is another method wherein the sensor moves like a desk-top scanner. In some cases, scanning is achieved by rotating the whole camera, enabling one to get images of a very high resolution. In recent years, technical improvements have made single shot and LCD based cameras very popular in commercial and digital photography.

Let us dwell on the connectivity of these new model digital cameras. Early computers used the Serial port to transfer data. There are cameras that use wireless connections via Bluetooth or IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi.Modern cameras come equipped with Pict Bridge Standard which allows for the automatic transfer of data to a Pict Bridge capable computer printer, thereby circumventing the need for a computer.

These cameras lend themselves to a variety of uses. They allow one to view a photograph as soon as it is taken. With constant improvements in technology, and cutting-edge software available, modifications and digital manipulations seem almost endless. They are ideal for sports enthusiasts, who can capture fast action in all its glory. They are ideal for capturing loving moments of family get-togethers. Professionals and amateurs can use these cameras to freeze those special moments of life that come rarely!

What is a Digital Camera? article

A digital camera is an electronic device used to capture and store photographs electronically instead of using photographic film like conventional cameras. It uses a digital sensor to capture the light instead of traditional film. The LCD on the back of a digital camera is your on screen guide to altering the settings before a shoot and reviewing the results afterwards.

The big advantage of digital cameras is that, unlike film, you can reuse the storage media over and over again at no extra cost.

Bearing this in mind you can quickly delete unwanted images and take more photographs as you go along. Also making photos is both inexpensive and fast because there is no film processing needed for obtaining prints.

The range of digital cameras is immense, and provides an equally large span of capabilities and functionalities. The main tip for using digital cameras is don’t be afraid, read the manual and just experiment.

One of the main ways that manufacturers categorize their digital cameras is in terms of pixel count, ranging from low end consumer cameras around 3.1mp (mega pixels) up to 10mp or more in professional cameras. If you plan on printing 8 x 10-inch prints, a 5 megapixel digital camera is more than enough.

When you’ve had a digital camera for a long time, you’ll learn enough to experiment with your digital photos online. Almost any digital camera is capable of taking pictures for display on the internet, or for sending across the internet as email and uploading to online galleries such as Webshots and Flickr.

One thing to be aware of is how many many pictures the camera can take with one set of batteries. Can the batteries be recharged, can I use normal AAs or does it need a lithium battery with its own charger?

Helpful Tips On How To Choose A Digital Camera article

BuyWaterproof Digital Camera Best Price
-

When the time comes to buy yourself a digital camera, it can be a very confusing process. There are so many digital cameras available on the market today, it’s hard to know where to start. There are so many great features, and each camera has its own particular capabilities for things like image resolution, lens power, storage capacity and so on. So where do you start?

In the end, you buy a digital camera to take pictures. So although there are many things you need to consider before choosing a camera, there’s no doubt that image quality and color trueness are the most important. You need to spend time checking out the images generated by a number of different cameras before you can make a decision. Don’t look at retouched images, just at fresh shots.

Resolution is also very important. The quality of a camera and its photos are in direct proportion to the image resolution. The higher the mega pixels, the better the resolution. For example, a camera with a capability of 3 mega pixels (MP) will output images that are between 1 and 2 MB in size. But a 7 MP camera produces images from 4 to 5 MB in size. For beginners, a low or mid-end MP camera will be fine, but professionals must go for high pixel cameras.

Once you have a few cameras in mind, try picking them up and seeing how easy they are to operate. A large or heavy camera can be difficult to carry, and may be difficult to hold still while taking photos. It’s also important that all the main buttons for operating the camera are easy to locate and use.

Check out the storage capacity of the camera. A small memory card doesn’t matter if you’re only going to take a few photos at a time and have ready access to your computer for downloading. But if you’re going to be using your camera while traveling, you will probably find you need a large memory card or perhaps a couple of small memory cards. That way you won’t constantly be running out of space. Even if the camera you prefer only has a small card, it doesn’t matter, because you can buy a larger card separately.

Most of the low to mid range cameras come with a single lens, and generally have some sort of ‘zoom’ capability. If you’re going to be taking lots of photos at close range, such as less than 1.5 feet (of flowers, for example) then make sure you choose a camera with a macro option. It’s also possible to buy a high-end camera, which is basically a 35mm SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera, which allows you to change lenses. These are great for professional photographers, but for the average person you will probably find you spend a lot of money for nothing.

Digital cameras tend to go through a lot of batteries, so you may like to choose one with an AC adapter so that you can recharge the battery directly from an electrical socket. The only problem is that you can’t use the camera while it’s being charged. So you may prefer to buy some rechargeable batteries and a battery charger. Always make sure you have a spare set of batteries ready to go.

Fisher Price Kid Tough Waterproof Camera - Is it That Tough?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Let’s face it, kids love to do whatever they see us doing. They want to be able to take pictures of their friends, pets, and life around them, but do we really want them using our expensive digital cameras? Just think of all the damage they could do in a very short amount of time! This is where the Fisher Price Kid Tough Camera comes in. It’s built to withstand children and that’s saying something. Your child can drop the camera down a flight of stairs or into the swimming pool and it will be fine.

Just like a regular digital camera, the Kid Tough camera has a 1.6-inch color LCD screen so that your child can see what picture he has just taken. There are sturdy, dual hand grips so that your child can easily hold the camera steady for picture taking. The big buttons are easy to find and press. The controls are simple enough that even if your child cannot yet read, he will be able to use this camera. The viewfinder has two-eye viewing since most children have not yet mastered “winking.” The camera is even waterproof!

The fisher price kid tough camera stores over 60 pictures (8 MB built-in memory, 640 x 480 resolution) and has a built-in auto flash. There is also a SD memory card slot if you wish to store additional pictures. (The memory card is sold separately.) The camera does come with a USB cord for computer connection, a wrist strap, and a lithium battery. The camera also requires 4 AA alkaline batteries that are not included. The camera is compatible with Windows 2000 or higher and Macintosh. It is recommended for children over 3 years of age. The Fisher Price Kid Tough Camera also comes in a variety of colors.

Your child can take pictures underwater, on the beach, outdoors (rain or shine), of their friends, of animals, at school, at the zoo, on field trips, anywhere and everywhere he goes. What a great way to see the world from your child’s point of view.

Digital Cameras and Images as Working and Article Tools! article

BuyWaterproof Digital Camera Best Price

When I’m freelancing an article for some magazine, they usually like to see a few digital images along with my article on the theme. If it’s some wild pheasant I saw coming out of the bush, the article really has no impact without a few chosen digital shots! Even when I use to investigate special risk claims in my previous career, the camera was always my companion. I never leave the house without a camera. You never know when the occasion will present itself for a perfect shoot of something, that you can use to make money.

That being said, the beauty of digital images, is that they can be reduced in size and easily uploaded to the magazine editor without losing to much of its resolution, or you can insert the image with your text into a word document and email the article.

When I go to the trouble of creating a Word document for an article of some kind, I like my document to be visually attractive to the eye, so that the reader keeps reading. One way to do this is with digital images. I might write my article and half-way into the article, insert a few chosen images.

While you probably know how to do this already, here’s a few tricks I’m sure you didn’t know. For example, an image, although is rectangle, doesn’t have to be rectangle in a document. It can be anything from rectangle, round, arrow, jigsaw etc., and here’s how you do it.

Open your word processor and from the drawing toolbar, choose a shape from the Autoshapes List. Drag that shape into your document. Resize it as you wish and save it. You don’t want to accidently delete it as you work. Next, right-click it and choose in the menu Format> Autoshape / Colors and Lines tab and click on the arrow beside the Fill color box. Then choose Fill Effects, Picture Tab, Select picture and select an image to use.

Next, click Insert andcheck the Lock picture aspect ratio checkbox, and disable the Rotate fill effect with shape ‘checkbox’, then click ‘OK’ twice. Voila, you now have an image in your chosen shape.

What you want to do now is, remove the outline from the shape. To do this, right click the outline and choose Format> Autoshape, Clors and Lines tab, and set the line color value to ‘No Line’. If you want to wrap some text around the image or shape, click the shape, click the Text wrapping button on the picture toolbar, and then set the text wrapping to ’square’ or ‘tight’.

There you have it, your editor or reader will be impressed!

Save Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD

I was going to buy a cheap underwater camera to use on vacation for snorkeling but in reading reviews on the various models out there, I kept coming back to the Cannon. I decided to spend a little bit more and get this one and I’m very glad I did. It does everything I could wish for and more… It’s smarter than I am! It took great pictures both in the water and out. I didn’t have the trouble I thought I would in seeing the viewing screen under water or in bright sunlight. It’s a great camera.

I had a bit of worry when I used it the first time because it seemed to be foggy. I found that this seems to be caused by rapid changes in temperature like going from a hot sunny deck to the cool water. But this didn’t last long and when I was more careful to keep it from sitting in the sun, I didn’t have any more trouble with this.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is very versatile out of water as well and will use it while sailing instead of risking our “good” camera in the saltwater environment.
